Chocolate Heart Shells
Essentials:
Chocolate of your choice; OR10 ounces (or 1 bag) Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips & 1-2 ounces Hard Shell Chocolate
Our Heart silicone chocolate mold;
Toothpick or small skewer
Hot cocoa powder and mini marshmallows; ( TIP- Cut full size marshmallows in half for better fit )
Piping hot milk.
Start your shells off by melting chocolate either on the stove or the microwave, then coat the inside of your mold with a healthy layer.
Next, put the mold in the fridge for 30 minutes. (The chocolate will slightly change to a lighter color when it is fully hardened and cold.)
Take them out of the fridge and gently pull on all outer sides of the mold to loosen up the chocolate shapes inside. Carefully push upwards on the bottom of each mold to pop them out one at a time.
If any break or you find that the side layers are not thick enough, use the remaining melted chocolate chips to add another layer and re-refrigerate for another 20-30 minutes.
Fill half of your heart shell with mini marshmallows and your favorite hot cocoa mix. Smooth out the edges on the empty half of your heart bomb by pressing it onto a hot plate (that you heated up in the microwave) for a few seconds, then fit it on top of your other half. Use a toothpick and smooth hard shell chocolate or leftover melted chocolate on edges to fill any cracks in the seams and voila!
To make your hot cocoa bomb explode into a melty mountain of chocolate and marshmallow goodness, we recommend putting the bomb into your empty mug first. Just pour some piping hot milk over it, and watch the magic happen.
TIP: You can also make breakable mini heart shells and fill the cavity with candy & other sweet surprises.
